Kill your programmes and grow your church!

I have been thinking a lot about what we are doing as a community here in Niddrie. We are constantly busy and there always seems to be something going on. I like to tell myself that it is all ‘important gospel ministry’ but sometimes I am not so sure. We try to keep things like ‘meetings’ down to a minimum but some are still necessary for the health and benefit of the church (prayer meeting for example). Often in this ministry, the closer to a holiday I get and the more tired I begin to feel, the less interest I take in people, and the easy it is to hide in the study or do something that doesn’t involve people. The irony is that sometimes we can get so busy working on behalf of people that we lose touch with them.

As I grow more convinced by our need to do less in order to reach more people, I came across a helpful reminder from this site that busyness does not necessarily translate to fruitfulness. Read the article here.
