I know many pastors who think that preaching from full notes is a real no-no. They think that it curbs and inhibits the work of the Holy Spirit in preaching and ties people down. I couldn’t disagree more and I always preach from a full manuscript and I bet that if you asked my members on a Sunday, most would not even realise it. Generally, I memorise the message almost verbatim and the fullness of the notes keep me on track in case I drift off or go down an avenue ‘on the hoof’ (or ‘led by the Spirit’ if you want the Christiany term).
