I just read an interesting article on why small groups don’t work. Whilst from a USA perspective, let me assure you that some of what he says couldn’t be truer, particularly in our context. People in Niddrie don’t want to sit around for 1.5 hours a week and pretend to like other people they don’t really know or associate with outside of the allotted time. We need a big mind shift which is why we are currently meeting monthly to discuss our options and to try to think differently about this issue. It’s a tough one because many people don’t even want to think these things through because it is too much hard work. I am encouraged that others are beginning to be challenged. I am hoping to launch some missional groups soon, but we shall see.
