Staff Team

The Staff Team are the full-time members of staff at NCC, made up of the Ministry Team, Apprentices and Trainees. Some church staff are in paid positions, some are in unpaid positions, and others raise their own finances for support. The Staff Team come under the authority of the NCC Elders.

Mez McConnell (Senior Pastor)

Mez has been the Senior Pastor of Niddrie Community Church since September 2007. Prior to that he spent 4 years with UFM Worldwide working with street children in Brazil, and planted the Good News Church in one of the most deprived parts of the country.

Mez has been involved in full time pastoral ministry since 1999 in various capacities and has written 2 books: Preparing for Baptism: A Personal Diary (Grace Publications Trust), and Is There Anybody Out There (Christian Focus).

He is married to Miriam and has 2 girls, Keziah and Lydia.

Andy Constable (Assistant Pastor)

Andy is the Assistant Pastor here at Niddrie Community Church, where he also leads the Ministry Team. He is married to Debbie, loves sport, reading and going to the cinema.

He graduated from Edinburgh University with a MA in Divinity and started working for the church in January 2010 after working for a year in a township called Manenberg in Cape Town.

Sharon Dickens (Director of Women’s Ministries – 20schemes)

Sharon has been a member of the Ministry Team since April 2008 and a member at NCC since 2005. She has over 20 years experience working in the community primarily with families and people who have experienced or are at risk of homelessness.

She has two teenagers, Emily and Bobby.

Mike Stark (Lead Children’s and Youth Worker)

Mike is in his 4th year at NCC. In addition to overseeing traditional clubs, he does a lot of one-2-one and group work. We have a strong partnership with the local high school, where Mike is the school chaplain.

Prior to NCC Mike worked for a year at Charlotte Chapel in Edinburgh as their youth worker, and in accounting at KPMG. He has an MA(Hons) in English Literature and History from the University of Edinburgh, and a BA in Youth Work with Applied Theology from International Christian College in Glasgow.

He maintains an active lifestyle, especially running, swimming and mountain biking. Mike recently cycled London to Paris and Lands End to John O’Groats on 2 separate trips with his brother, Rick. He’s married to Helen, who is a high school French and German teacher.

Miriam McConnell (Women’s Pastoral Worker)

Miriam is married to Mez and has been on the staff team for 3 years now. Mez and Miriam have 2 girls, Keziah and Lydia.

Prior to joining the staff team at NCC, Miriam and Mez spent 4 years with UFM Worldwide working with street children in Brazil. Miriam’s main focus was prevention and was heavily involved in establishing a Christian pre-school project and various children’s Bible clubs.

As well as women’s pastoral work, Miriam manages the Café and is involved in many other ministries of the church.

Daniel Melo Da Silva (Youth Apprentice)

Daniel is from Sao Luis in Brazil. He has been working at Niddrie Community Church for 2 years now and is married to Linsey.

Daniel is one of our Apprentices, with particular focus on Children’s and Youth Work. He is passionate about football, managing both the Niddrie Mission F.C. and the Niddrie Juniors F.C.

Daniel, along with the other Apprentices and Trainees, is studying Porterbrook this year.

Charlene Hutchison (Church Apprentice)

Charlene grew up in Niddrie and was one of the first women to come to faith through the ministry of the church.

Charlene has been an active volunteer in the church for 1 year and is now one of our ministry apprentices, with particular focus on administration, and women’s work. Charlene is married to Kevin. She has 2 sons, Jordan and Brian.

Charlene, along with the other Apprentices and Trainees, is studying Porterbrook this year.

Tasha Davidson (Youth Apprentice)

Tasha grew up in Niddrie and is among a number of young women who have come to faith recently. She is well known in the community and is a gifted girls worker.

Tasha joins Mike and Daniel on the Core Youth Team, with a particular responsibility for girls work.

Tasha, along with the other Apprentices and Trainees, is studying Porterbrook this year.

Ralph Deasley (Trainee)

Ralph grew up in Dundee, loves to cycle and work out. He became a Christian in 2011 and has been living in Niddrie ever since. He has a little boy also called Ralph.

Ralph is on the Trainee programme at NCC, gaining a wide range of ministry experience. He now lives in James Ramsay House, in Shotts, with the other Trainees.

He was baptised at Niddrie Community Church on 18 November 2012, bearing public witness to his repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. To see his testimony and baptism, please click here.

Rick is on the Trainee programme at NCC, gaining a wide range of ministry experience. He now lives in James Ramsay House, in Shotts, with the other Trainees.

He was baptised at Niddrie Community Church on 18 November 2012, bearing public witness to his repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. To see his testimony and baptism, please click here.
